Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine
Acupuncture
Chinese medicine views the body as a dynamic, interrelated whole, possessing a vital energy called Qi [chee]. The free-flow of Qi constitutes optimal health. When disease occurs, specific therapeutic techniques of Acupuncture are chosen to rebalance the body’s physiology and allow for regenerative healing.
Acupuncture is just one form of treatment within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Treatments may include needling, cupping, gua sha, electrostimulation, moxabustion, and prescribed herbal formulas. I choose the techniques that will work the best for you on that day, i.e. pain relief, calming the nervous system, etc.
Safety
In the hands of a well-trained practitioner acupuncture is safe and effective. Acupuncturists are thoroughly trained in safety standards and are license-tested for precautionary conditions, preventing transmission of blood-borne pathogens, disposal of contaminated waste, and other methods to ensure patient safety. Minor side effects are possible, such as light-headedness, and any side effect should be discussed with your practitioner.
Chinese Herbal Medicine
Chinese Medicine dates back as far as 3,000 years and herbal formulas are a large part of the medicine. The herbs are always combined in balanced formulas that address the main health concern and support the patient’s whole health.
As with Acupuncture, herbal formulas are gentler than pharmaceuticals, but minor side effects are possible, such as gas and bloating. This should be discussed with your practitioner.
Chinese herbal medicine is produced in various forms, such as loose, dried herbs for a tea, pill forms, tinctures, granulated powders for dissolving in water to drink, and topical liniments and lotions. My practice offers capsulated and granulated powder forms of Chinese herbal formulas produced by TCM Zone, which are 5:1 concentration with little to no binders ensuring the high quality and efficacy in herbal medicine.
